I’m graduating college and right now Nashville is looking promising for job opportunities in my field since I want to be near my family in the southeast. I will likely be living there for the next few years in my early to mid 20s. So what is it like for a single young female starting out on her own? Will I feel safe if I get a gated apartment and have a roommate? Is there a lot to do and ways to meet people? How is the bar scene? I love music and have heard the music scene is awesome, especially since I love country music! Any and all info would be really appreciated!

Nashville should feel very safe for someone in a gated apartment with a roommate. There are different areas outside downtown Nashville that are really great with young students. The Vanderbilt area, Belle Meade, Brentwood, West End, and Green Hills areas are very safe and normal places where families raise their kids and students go to school at Vanderbilt and Belmont.

Downtown is just like any other city… Some street performers, beggars, drunk people, etc. I go downtown almost every day and never feel like my safety is really threatened but if you let those people get to you, I would avoid it. The music scene is great. If you unroll the windows or walk down the streets downtown, you will be able to hear country music most times of day. Honkytonks can get overwhelming at night for some but overall are fun and exciting.

People in Nashville and around the area are generally very nice and welcoming.
